Human Rights Internships

Around the world human rights are the forefront of conversation, whether it is gender equity, education, or social, economic, and environmental justice. If you’re passionate about any of these, an internship abroad with Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD) will help you gain valuable international experience, advance on your path to a career of spreading justice and help make a difference in communities around the world.

Through an internship with FSD, you’ll have the opportunity to work with organizations that are working to advance human rights. Whether it be creating and facilitating conversations around women’s rights and gender equality in, helping to write petitions or policies campaigning for indigenous rights, or shaping the direction of community-driven proposals to initiate social change, FSD interns support the mission of the local communities where they work.

FSD’s programs let you work directly in service-based internships or do international research. Interns are matched with a community organization, learn about their priorities, and work with their host-colleagues to develop a project plan that aligns with the organization's mission.

When interns arrive in the field, FSD local site teams will lead an in-country orientation, providing each intern with invaluable guidance and insight that will help them throughout their program. Orientation is a blend of theoretical topics such as FSD’s asset-based community development model and community-based research and day-to-day details such as how to navigate the local transit system, safety, and security. Through the orientation process, interns are introduced to the people who will be their support network while they are in country: FSD staff, their supervisors, host organizations, host families, and other interns serving in the area.
